Aer Lingus Airbus A320 EI-DVN "St. Caimin" lands in front of Terminal 1 in Dublin Airport with it's characteristic big green sign, having just worked flight EI777 from Lanzarote (ACE). You can clearly see the engine reversers are deployed (the black flaps at the rear of the engines), the flaps are out (bottom back of the wing is bent down), and the spoilers are deployed (on top of the wings). The extended flaps give the plane more lift (at the cost of more drag), allowing it to stay in the air at lower speeds because you want to land slowly (relative to a jet's cruising speed anyway). The engine reversers help the brakes by deflecting part of the jet's thrust forward. Finally the spoilers intentionally disrupt the flow of air over the wing, removing the lift, and helping the full weight of the plane to press down on the tyres so the brakes can be effective.
