Religion was all well and good in 17th century Denmark, but astronomy was the new hot shit. So instead of a bell tower the King proposed an observatory tower for the Trinitatis Church in Copenhagen. The <a target="_BLANK" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rundetårn" rel="nofollow">Rundetårn</a> was finished 1642 and made it necessary that the bells of the church are stowed away under the enormous gable, which used to host an academic library as well.
